| Poland

Narcyz Piórecki was born in Przemyśl. He studied in Professor Jan Szancenbach’s studio in the Department of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, and in the studio of textile art at the Academy of Fine Arts with Professor Lilla Kulka. He is a lecturer at the University of Rzeszow, and for several years he has been the director of the botanic garden and Arboretum in Bolestraszyce.

The scope of his artistic interests is extremely wide. He creates paintings, fabrics, drawings, lithography, photography and garden art. As the director of Arboretum in Bolestraszyce, he organises cultural events such as the International Outdoor Wicker Art in the Arboretum, Garden Festivals and numerous seminars and lectures on landscaping and dendrology including Nature-Culture Seminar. He leads the Art Gallery of Peter. He is also a co-creator of several Polish varieties of edible dogwood, as part of the work carried out to restore the collective memory of this important crop plant which is nearly forgotten in Polish culture.

In beautiful natural settings, for years he has been combining culture with art which has always been the source of inspiration for him, shaping his sensibility and constantly provoking a new of way of searching. His early works were rich in colour, but later he limited himself to two colours, which were a range of different shades of grey and blue; in his recent work blue has been more dominant. Narcissus Piórecki’s favorite tool for transferring his emotions onto canvas is the airbrush and acrylic paints.

His works are light and aerial, and when you look at the delicate touches you can sense the enormous sensitivity and delicacy of the artist, who presents us with nature and the surrounding world in an original and innovative way.

Narcyz Piórecki is the organizer of dozens of individual exhibitions, and he has also participated in numerous group exhibitions in his own country and overseas. His works are in museums, and private collections at home and abroad, including France, Germany, Ukraine and North America.
